Before attending your practical assessment, you must complete the online course and pass the practice exam.
This helps ensure that you are ready for the final assessment and reduces the chance of needing a resit.
If you are part of a company booking, your assessment date may depend on all enrolled staff completing the required preparation.
-
Once you have completed the online theory course and passed the practice exam, you will gain access to a course section named "Book your in-person practical session."
Use the calendar within the section to book in to one of the available time slots. If your booking is successful, you will receive a confirmation email to your registered email address.
For company bookings, your employer or training coordinator will arrange the assessment date directly with Aviation Radio Australia.
-
The in-person assessment session consists of two main components: a theory examination and a practical assessment.
The theory examination:
Consists of 30 multiple-choice questions
Has a time limit of 1 hour
Requires a mark of 80% or higher to pass
The practical assessment is a short verbal assessment of your ability to set up, operate and troubleshoot a handheld VHF aviation radio.
It also includes some scenarios during which you will be required to simulate transmitting and receiving radio calls.
-
After your practical assessment, Aviation Radio Australia will confirm your assessment outcome.
If you are assessed as competent, you will receive a course completion certificate via email and Aviation Radio Australia will lodge your AROC application with CASA.
Both your course completion certificate and AROC will be issued within five business days of course completion. -
If you do not pass the assessment, your invigilator will explain what needs to be reviewed and what the next steps are.
You may need to revise part of the course before attempting the assessment again.
Resit availability and any applicable fees will be confirmed by Aviation Radio Australia.
Typically, students will be permitted one resit of the assessment at no additional charge. Any additional attempts will incur an additional cost.
